Admission Policies and Procedures

1. It is important that parents of prospective students understand and support a Biblically-based, Christ-centered education, as well as the specific standards of performance, conduct and appearance expected of Valley Christian School students.
2. Valley Christian School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in its educational or admission policies.  The school reserves the right to select students on the basis of academic performance and personal qualifications in keeping with our basic philosophy.
3. Parents must agree with the Statement of Faith and desire to have their children trained in accordance with it.
4. Each prospective student (kindergarten through eighth grade) and his parents must have an informal interview with the principal to determine the suitability of enrollment and to establish a foundation of understanding for home-school relationships.
5. All new Kindergarten through Eighth students will be tested to determine grade placement and developmental readiness for entrance into our program.  New fourth through eighth grade students must submit references from their pastor or Sunday school teacher and former principal.  Acceptance to VCS is not final until these forms have been received and reviewed.
6. Preschool students must be three years old by August 31.
7. Pre-Kindergarten students must be four years old by August 31.
8. Kindergarten students:
   1. Must be five years old by August 31.
   2. Must place at or above 5.0 on the Development Readiness Scale.
   3. Must present birth and immunization certificates or records.
   4. Will be accepted, all other things being equal, in the order date of receipt of application, registration fee, and first month's tuition.
9. First Grade students:
   1. Must be six years old by August 31.
   2. The child must place at or above 6.0 on the Development Readiness Scale, be able to write numerals to 10, be able to count to 20 and recognize each of the 26 alphabet letters.
10. All other students:
    1. Must be of suitable age for the grade assigned.
    2. Must have current immunization record.
    3. If the child is up to one year below grade level, we will accept them on probation for one year.
    4. If the child is one to two years below grade level, we will accept the child into the grade one level below the grade for which they have applied.  The student will be on probation for one year.
    
    **Probation means the student must make a minimum of one year's growth in a year's time.  The administrator and teacher will evaluate all aspects of the child's growth during that time.
    5. The child will be accepted, all other things being equal, in the order of date of receipt of application and registration fee and first month's tuition.
    6. If the child is two or more years below grade level, we cannot accept them.

**As much as we would like to minister to all children, at this time we are not equipped to handle all special needs situations.

11. No student will be admitted whose behavior and work habit records are not acceptable.  Such a student must prove himself elsewhere before enrollment at Valley Christian School.
